MYTH
I have always wanted the clothes I wear to mean something. Clothes are talismans. They are powerful anchors for identity, and we too often outsource these powerful symbols to propaganda machines that orient around a single statement. They lack depth because depth is confusing to the masses.
The Floating World clothing line is Part 1 of the Edopunk Universe. Edopunk is a vision of a potential future— a future where at the core, we create pro-human technology that works for us, that allows us to be creative, to feel joy, to experience the world. The way we are heading, this future is out of reach. As long as humans are the products of technology, the technology will be extractive in nature.
The Floating World Myth addresses this technological struggle and introduces us to our hero Rikyu. We follow him on a journey from The Floating World—think Epcot city of the future meets Ready Player One—a hive of people living in their multi-screen rigs, stuck in a feudal economic system where the government gives you more Universal Basic Income based on how much content and advertisements you consume. Each piece in The Floating World collection represents a point in Rikyu’s journey. They are empowering pieces of clothing that ask us to connect with our humanity, remind us the importance of friction in joy, and that effort is a reward in itself.
In the product description you can find a mini story that each piece plays in Rikyu's story.
